About the Speaker:
Tom Kropatsch has been with the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (WOGCC) since 2010 and served as a Natural Resources Analyst, Natural Resources Supervisor, Deputy Supervisor, Interim Supervisor and since 2021 as the State Oil and Gas Supervisor. During his tenure at the WOGCC, Tom has been responsible for the implementation of the agency’s environmental programs such as baseline groundwater quality; remediation and disposal of exploration and production generated wastes; recycling, reuse, and disposal of flow back and produced water; spill and incident response; pit and seismic permitting; and the bonding program.
As the Natural Resources Supervisor Tom was also the program director for the agency’s Class II Underground Injection Control program and has been leading the replacement of the agency’s legacy database and development of the WYSTAR system. Prior to his time with the WOGCC, Tom spent approximately ten years working in the environmental consulting industry.
Tom is currently the vice-chair for the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, is a board member for the Ground Water Protection Council, participates as an ex-officio board member of the Wyoming Energy Authority, is a member of Wyoming’s Consensus Revenue Estimating Group, and is a Wyoming registered Professional Geologist. The 19th annual tournament will be held on May 8, 9, and 10, 2024. There will be an estimated 30 two-man teams competing for the trophy fish. Each day holds many activities and lots of great fishing. The tournament is concluded with a ceremonial evening and auction of fine art – all of this benefiting worthy causes. We are passionate about our river and the betterment of our community. That is why the focus of our tournament is to raise money for Wyoming charities and preserve the wildlife habitat — all while having fun!

Topic: Enhanced Oil Recovery Insights: Practical Conventional Well Log Interpretation
This class is designed as a review of conventional well log analysis from a practical point of view. It will primarily take a look at resistivity and porosity logs as they pertain to obtaining water saturation, but will also look at logs such as the gamma ray, spectral gamma ray, microlog, imaging, and photoelectric log as a way to get a feel for lithology and mineralogy and permeability. The class aims to help engineers and geologists determine the best suite of logs to run on a new well, and to evaluate whether to run pipe and what interval to complete. Examples and problems will be presented to help cement the concepts into the attendee’s minds.
The two-day course will be presented by Leo A. Giangiacomo, P.E. Mr. Giangiacomo has been working with well logs for 46 years in the Gulf Coast, Rocky Mountains, Midcontinent, North Dakota, Permian, and Central Asia. He has experience in running them on new wells, as well as using a combination of new and old logs for field redevelopments.
The training time is from 8am - 5pm.

Topic: New Interpretations of Alpha Minnelusa Field Based on Geologic Mapping and a 3D Seismic Survey
Mr. Ellingson and Mr. Frederick will discuss analysis of a 3D seismic survey over the Alpha Minnelusa field and how these new data affected geological mapping of the field. The purpose of the study was to develop a better understanding of the reservoir boundaries and to determine if there were additional locations worth drilling. This work shows that it is now possible to predict reservoir thickness more accurately for PUD locations and of equal importance, to minimize the chances of drilling a dry hole.
Enhanced Oil Recovery Insights on Tuesday September 12, 2023 will feature Scott Ellingson, Geologist & John Frederick, Geophysicist
