Thoughts on Regional Geology Muddy Formation

EORI’s Enhanced Oil Recovery Insights series proposed new thoughts and queries about the Muddy Formation in the Powder River Basin focusing on ways that could improve oil production.

The Enhanced Oil Recovery Institute’s Stephen Whitaker, Senior Petroleum Geologist, approached the discussion from three questions: the development of the Muddy Formation, the relationship between the Permian Pine/Ervay Salt (250 mya) and deposition of the Cretaceous Muddy Formation (100 mya), and how the dissolution of underlying salt affects correlations in the Muddy at Kitty Field and elsewhere.
