Carbon Capture Nearing Market Readiness

Wyoming is one of a handful of states that already has an established industrial use for CO2.  Injecting CO2 into old oil wells to enhance oil production (CO2-EOR), and ultimately to sequester the CO2 left in the ground afterward, is already being implemented in Wyoming.

EORI’s Acting Director, Lon Whitman, states in an interview “People need financial support through tax credits or federal dollars for storing [CO2] to make these projects economic.” Currently, CO2-EOR is the only commercial sequestration industry that provides enough built-in profit to help offset the cost of upgrading the infrastructure needed to capture, transport, and store this greenhouse gas.
